When to come

Phuket, with its beautiful beaches and idyllic offshore islands, enjoys all year round temperatures between 26 and 36 degrees, making it ideal for enjoying the many activities 12 months of the year.

The rainy season (summer season) runs from May until the end of October, with May, September and October having the most rainfall. However, even in the summer season there are still long periods of sunshine each day. The summer season is a lovely time to visit Phuket as it is quieter, and the weather can still be glorious!

The best time to go to Phuket really is up to you, really it just it depends on what your priorities are, be it almost guaranteed perfect weather or taking advantage of low season prices and quieter beaches.

Phuket Island in the south of Thailand is commonly referred to as the Pearl of the “Andaman Sea.” Phuket is Thailand’s largest island and welcomes thousands of tourists every year with its irresistible combination of breathtaking scenic beauty, spectacular islands and bays, amazing Thai hospitality and wonderful cuisine. In fact, amongst seasoned travelers it is argued that Phukets southern beaches are the best in Thailand.

Phuket is only 7° degrees north of the equator, and boasts a tropical climate with an influence of monsoonal weather governed mainly by the direction of the monsoon winds. This ensures that Phuket is warm all through the year except for the hot weather during April & May with the period between September & October being the wettest in Phuket, but despite this, the rainfall is usually brief and heavy rather than long and drawn out.

Phuket is great to visit at any time of the year. Traditionally, the busiest time is from early November until mid April, with the Christmas/New Year period being the absolute peak season. During these times you will need to book well in advance to avoid disappointment. November till April is the period when Phuket enjoys the cool breezes caused by the North East monsoon season and minimal rainfall. At this time of the year it is common to get periods of 30 days or more or uninterrupted sunshine, the climate is not too humid, and the cool breezes blowing make the region very comfortable. Average temperature’s during this season hover around 26° C to 32° C.

If virtually guaranteed good weather is your priority, then choose this season to enjoy your Phuket Holiday. Of course the increase in popularity does mean its a little bit more expensive and a bit harder to find that elusive deserted beach! The hottest period in Phuket is from April-May, when temperatures range from 27° C to 36° C. If you are looking forward to avoiding the crowds and taking advantage of the low-season discounted rates for accommodation and services for your holiday in Phuket, you should consider traveling during the other months. Even during the monsoon period short rainsqualls are interspersed with beautiful sunny periods. Usually most of the rain comes during the night, and the days can be fabulous and peaceful which means you can still enjoy the full range of outdoor activities available here. Depending on your budget, the money you could save could easily offset any concerns about a little bit of rainfall.
